New York City Rugby League submit bid to join RFL

On September 15th 2017, the New York City RL bid team submitted an application to join the RFL ranks, aiming to follow in the footsteps of previous international expansion teams, Toronto Wolfpack, Catalans Dragons and Toulouse Olympique.

The bid detailed how the potential club would look to infiltrate a saturated market and bring a new summer contact sport to the New York Metropolitan area. Also included in the bid was the intention to immediately link with local schools, colleges, universities and community groups in order to launch the brand with young people along with having a savvy marketing plan that would launch the brand and the sport into new markets.

The bid also looked at companies already expressing an interest in this exciting venture and profiled them as well as setting out an example itinerary for visiting teams. It is the intention that the team will look to play in blocks of two games at home and two games away with the intention of being available to interact with the community and sponsors at every opportunity.

On delivering the bid to the RFL, bid lead Ricky Wilby said: “It has been a long but rewarding task to have finally delivered this bid application to the RFL.

"Having spoken with a number of trusted colleagues within the game, I’m delighted to say that our bid stands up to some stringent guidelines and we look forward to hearing back from the RFL in the coming weeks and months as we look forward to entering into the RFL structure in the coming seasons.”
