On March 16th 2018, the New York City RL bid received mayoral support from Mayor James Fife, Mayor of the Town of Harrison.

This proved a key moment in the bid application as the RFL had requested the support of local Mayor’s from the area, given that the team hope to play their home games at Harrison’s Red Bull Arena and house the players in the Harrison area, it was a significant moment for the bid team as they look to build momentum.

Mayor Fife said: “It gives me great pleasure as the Mayor of Harrison to lend my support to the New York Rugby League Club as they endeavor to become the first USA based Trans-Atlantic Rugby League franchise to compete in the English Rugby League Competition.”

Mayor Fife continued: “I have no doubt that the fast paced exciting nature of the game will see fans from all over come to the Tri-State area to see our team compete and we welcome them to the area and hope that they enjoy their time exploring some of the wonderful culture, nightlife and other exciting sights that we have to offer.”

Bid lead, Ricky Wilby said: “It’s an honour to receive such backing from Mayor Fife and we thank him and his team for believing in our vision and supporting our bid.

"We feel that our bid is one that can be supported but it is great that Mayor Fife believes the same and can see the benefits of not only supporting our bid application but also see the benefits of having the team being based in the area and contributing to the local community and economy.

“Mayor Fife has already opened a number of doors and opportunities for the bid team and we look forward to working closely with him and his team in the future."
